Silicon Valley CEOs Urge Santa Clara Valley Water District To Approve CA WaterFix

Letter Signed by 40 CEOs and Technology Company Leaders Advocates for Secure Water Deliveries Statewide

Sacramento, CA Today, 40 members of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, including the San Francisco 49ers, Gordon Biersch Brewing, Synopsis and other tech companies, sent a letter to the Board of Directors of the Santa Clara Valley Water District urging a support vote tomorrow on California WaterFix in order to secure California’s water supplies.

The Silicon Valley Leadership Group is a public policy trade association representing more than 400 of Silicon Valley’s most respected employers on issues, programs and campaigns that affect the economic health and quality of life in Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley Leadership Group members collectively provide nearly one of every three private sector jobs in Silicon Valley and contribute more than $3 trillion to the worldwide economy.

Santa Clara Valley Water District is expected to vote on WaterFix on Tuesday, October 17.

Below are excerpts from the piece:

“We are writing you to urge your aye vote on WaterFix in order to help secure our water supplies now and well into the future.

California is the sixth largest economy in the world, and Silicon Valley is a primary driver of our state’s job creation and growth. Yet our success, the envy of much of the world, is at risk unless we move to protect our water supply. As business and civic leaders in the South Bay, we cannot stress enough the need to secure safe, clean, affordable drinking water for the health and economic well being of our region.”

“Businesses have made this region their home, bringing innovation and jobs, but the sustained growth and economic success of the region — the envy of the world — will be cut short without a major investment in our water infrastructure. We believe that in order to protect our economy and way of life, we need to invest in new water infrastructure, just as we did in the 1960s.

Rejecting this project will be a perpetuation of the status quo that is already failing the Delta. We believe that WaterFix is what’s needed to secure our future and we respectfully request that you support the project as well.”
