PRESS RELEASE | WEDNESDAY, JUL 24, 2019

The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce has joined the Californians for Water Security Coalition to help advocate on behalf of the SCV, which relies on water sourced through the California State Water Project.

The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce has joined the Californians for Water Security Coalition to help advocate on behalf of the SCV, which relies on water sourced through the California State Water Project.

The state’s current water delivery system faces outdated infrastructure, earthquake hazards, and misallocation issues that put the water security of the Santa Clarita Valley at risk. In Southern California alone, nearly 30 percent of water used by residents comes from this vital delivery system.

“California has experienced water scarcity and supporting this coalition and its efforts will help our region advocate for a secure water supply,” said Nancy Starczyk, chair of the Board of the SCV Chamber. “Having protection from natural disasters and restoring habitats and natural water flows can only be achieved through modernizing our water delivery system.”

The SCV Chamber support of the Water Security Coalition will help convince California’s legislature to approve Gavin Newsom’s single pipeline Delta Conveyance system plan to update the state’s water allocation infrastructure.

Newsom’s plan would replace the current system of levies used for water transport with an earthquake-proof, low-evaporation pipeline to deliver water to nearly 70 percent of California residents.

A modern pipeline system will bring construction jobs to Californians, protect against the risk of natural disaster, and ensure the residents and businesses of Santa Clarita have access to the state’s precious water resources.

The Water Security Coalition is also supported by the California Chamber of Commerce, California Building Industry Association, Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed), and the SCV Water Agency.
